Lacoste

A French tennis superstar of the 1930s, René Lacoste caused a sensation when he walked on court in a short-sleeved cotton shirt. In 1933, Lacoste created a clothing company to market the shirts, each one bearing an alligator logo based on his nickname “the crocodile.” Lacoste polo shirts became a cornerstone of the preppy look and still stand at the heart of the company’s lines of classic and hi-tech sportswear.
